Chorley Mains cleaning deemed a success
17/04/2012
Aqualogy has recently completed a programme of works for Balfour Beatty in Chorley, Lancashire; as part of an on-going project for United Utilities. Four lengths of water main totalling 5.2km were considered too complex for cleaning with traditional techniques therefore Ice Pigging was selected due to the flexibility of the process.
All parties were impressed with the simplicity of the technique and the quality of cleaning achieved. In total 96.7kg of sediment was removed from the 5.2km of pipework, an average of 18.56kg/km. This was realised with each section of main closed for an average of only 1 hour 54 minutes. These achievements highlight the significant advantages of Ice Pigging, effectiveness of cleaning and minimisation of the impact on customers.
